EAST COAST DISCOVERY

Students Discover New York, Philadelphia, Gettysburg, Antietam, and Washington D.C.

First stop… New York City, where in the Harbor stands the symbol of international friendship the Statue of Liberty. Continue on to Ellis Island where over 22 million immigrants came to our shores. Visit Rockefeller Center, Central Park, Times Square, and see a Broadway show.

Continue on to the city of brotherly love: Philadelphia, the Birth Place of our Nation. Hear the stories of our Founding Fathers at Independence Hall. Explore the National Constitution Center where students experience important events of our nation's history through a unique, interactive exhibit. Students journey through the streets and experience a guided night time sound and light show detailing the dramatic events of pre-revolutionary times.

The Discovery continues with an exploration of the Civil War battlefields of Gettysburg and Antietam/Sharpsburg. Students learn about traits such as leadership, determination, and courage while participating in interactive programs at the battlefields.

The last stop is our nation's capitol, Washington D.C.  Students will see first hand our government in action with appointments to the United States Capitol, Supreme Court, and the National Archives. Visits to the Abraham Lincoln and Franklin Delano Roosevelt Memorials and Thomas Jefferson and Washington Monuments will help students understand our forefathers and their contributions.  Students will understand conflict and sacrifice when visiting the Vietnam Veteran, Korean War, World War II, and Marine Corps Memorials. Each night is filled with activities such as the theater or a dinner cruise down the Potomac River.
